Second Front and Inflation Week

Although the market has put on something of a rally for the early slog today, don’t hold your breath for the rest of the week.  Things could turn brutal as early as Tuesday when economic reports begin to drop.

The granddaddy of them all is the CPI Thursday.  Despite the Siren song of Modern Monetary Theorists, making up money still requires accounting entries. Which in turn pump rates. Which in sequence jack-up prices. Only then counting as “inflation.”

Fact is that inflation happens the moment the CCP in Washington (the Crooked Corporate Parties) overspend the Nation’s cash flows.  But they’ve been addicted for so long, that any withdrawal of the paper teat could collapse the world.

Leaves us in the position of knowing Fiat is dying, but rather helpless to do anything about it; the string (leash?) is too long.  Like reader LOOB fancies “Push all day on the wet noodle…”

Reasonable people saw the “new dealers” of the Biden administration being even worse than the previous.  Sure, a little improvement in personality – such as can be recalled – but a dump truck worse in Policy.

The Energy Department is leading the attack on lifestyle, while John Kerry is selling us out in China which is growing and doing infrastructure like we should be.  If you stare in a certain way, you can already see who’s going to win and it’s not a comfortable time to be an American.

Our saving grace is we short play markets and last week was OK.  Wave II – the bounce from the 2022 lows, is likely over here.  But a late summer rally could surprise.

Today news from “The Fronts” and some Treasury actions.

Watch Out This Afternoon

The Fed’s due out 3 PM today with the Consumer Credit Report.  Naturally, the title is misleading as hell.  It’s a CONSUMER DEBT report.

If you don’t keep rolling over your personal income spending into more and more unaffordable SYDN *(shit you don’t need), the whole House of Cards is in trouble.

Of course, they were in trouble anyway when interest on the National Debt blew past $5 billion a day, too.  But we can’t pick nits all morning. We think a rally until just after lunch and then consumers “yoking up the debt of oppression” could be a disappointment.

NFIB small business optimism tomorrow morning – then a trade report – will make Tuesday as exciting as soggy cornflakes.

Wednesday’s a big nothing, save a few treasuries.

Thursday’s Consumer Prices numbers will be telling. Here’s why.  Told you last time around the Fed really needed to raise a half point to put a Volker style nail into the heart of inflation.  They wussed out.

That means inflation in our expectation (based on real-life shopping experiences) has continued. With existing inflation intact and continuing.

Almost the ONLY number that will matter in the Thursday CPI will be inflation less food and energy.  If it’s 4.4 percent or higher, money will shift thinking to another Fed hike.  Right now, the (delusional) notion is the Fed is done.

But they’re not.  The talk of a “disappearing recession” just means the accompanying shoe (inflation driving) hasn’t been noticed dropping.  Economists don’t spend enough time in everyday life, all else being equal.

Niger is Sarajevo II:  Did 9 Av Hit?

A number of people have chided us on the lack of nuclear warheads in the predicted Av 9 window (July 27-29, depending on calendar). But there was one insanely brilliant comment posted here over the weekend you absolutely have to read because this is where we are going thanks to Biden and the War Parties.  Here’s reader Stephen’s zoom on it:

“Niger is the 2023 Sarajevo of 1914.

The “assassination” that lit that fuse for WW1 has now been lit for WW3 with the Niger coup.

France, which has already lost two Wars to try to keep its colonies (Vietnam /Algeria) is now about to engage in a 3rd one to keep its ability to financially RAPE Niger like any good ol Colonial Power continuing (it has been buying Niger’s uranium at 25% of the world price).

(France NEEDS Niger’s uranium in order to keep its nuclear reactors, which provide 70% of France’s electricity going. Niger provides 30% or Europe’s uranium and the Russian’s control another 60%)

Call it the “Last Stand of Colonial Rapists” in action … and it looks like France will be putting troops directly into the fight to “assist” the neighboring countries, who under France’s and the US’s pressure are going to intervene directly.

Wagner units supporting Niger, already nearby, are currently being reinforced by units being flown in from Russia as of Friday and yesterday.  (The Reader posted this analysis Sunday.)

This conflict is looking to be a DIRECT RUSSIA – WEST military confrontation. As with the growth of WW1 in its early phases different countries “Piling On” from what was “just” an assassination (common in the history of Europe of heredity ruling houses throughout the centuries).

Watch the coming conflict in Niger closely, and what happens in Namibia too. Africa as a whole may erupt in ways that are unpredictable since although “Colonialism” is officially dead in reality there is STILL Economic Raping by former Colonial Masters that is going on and many parts of African society are PISSED about it (including apparently those in Niger).

The 9th of Av did NOT pass peacefully. The Niger Coup came right on time.

With the table set, we can offer a simple breakfast.

War’s Coming

We are in the period I’ve labeled the Manufacturer’s Resource Wars.  As the time when – approaching the edge of Petri Dish Earth – we begin to run out of critical supplies.

Uranium.

Which comes from Russia, a bit more from Namibia, and then we have (Had?) Niger.

Therefore, while the Energy Department schemes to shut off your gas appliances, reduce light loads, ban gas generators, and demand a lesser lifestyle (or the same at higher cost) it’s because the War Party knows what happens: America Loses the Energy Race.

Russia beat the pants off the U.S. on uranium holdings, refining, and dealmaking.

The whole point of the war in Ukraine was to force Russia into something stupid so that Israel could attack Iran’s nuclear weapons program without an absolute shitstorm of bad press…

But since Ukraine isn’t winning the war, and since Putin is no one’s fool, so far, we saw the Crimean push fall apart, Wagner move into Belarus, and the Second Front is about to open in Europe. Kaliningrad and Belarus land blockade begin – Massive deployment of Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish military forces.

In the meanwhile, though, Ukraine is still trying to goad and roll-up Russians in the south: Ukraine Map Shows Attacks on Crimean Bridges Target Key Logistical Artery.  We would also keep an eye out for any Russian action on ships trying to run the (so far soft) Ukraine grain embargo.

Niger can be parceled out by China and Russia, which is what’s just ahead.  And we expect everyone to act even more aggressively than in the Middle East because Africa doesn’t have a power bloc (like OPEC) to bully finance around.

It’s the same mess as Friday, but worse.

Passing for News

Against this dismal background, we were pleased with Variety’s headline Sunday which lightened the mood a bit:  Someone on their headline staff exclaimed “Ninja Turtles can’t take down Barbi.”  The mental imagery was grand.

Still, we remain somber as China’s ideas of “weekend water sports” are a tad different than ours:Philippines Accuses China Coast Guard of Firing Water Cannon at Its Boats.”

Aw, shucks. Free lunches still illegal?  Supreme Court rules against Biden’s plan to forgive student loans – Daily Bruin.Getcher votes! Buyed ’em while they’re hot…yee-haw brothers and sisters…”

Before the close  today, some number of realists may remember Yellow Corp. (NASDAQ: YELL) Goes Out of Business; Blames Union Intransigence – TipRanks.com. That’s even if the Consumer Credit is moderate.

Digital “lynch mobs” anyone?  Curve Finance to Drag Exploiter to the Court, Offers Public Bounty (coingape.com).  Crypto isn’t sure what’s next, either:  Bitcoin was down into the $28000’s earlier. Back to low $29k’s now.

Around the Ranch: Possum 9

I didn’t say “I told you so!” when Elaine woke me up to report a possum on the screen porch.  BUT, I did remind her a couple of times Sunday: “Bring in the cat food, or the possums will be back.”

She didn’t. They did.  And a few minutes from now, Ure’s tractor hearse service will be moving the body.

Hell of it is?  You can’t just do a “reflex draw” of a pistol on a shot like this. Go study fast draws here. Also understand I don’t wear a chest rig to bed.)   The first step before the draw (in the house) is remembering to Open the Window. After that, high speed pesticide may be applied..

Before squeezing “Mentally checklist all the locations of propane cylinders.” Followed by  checking “Shot angle to avoid damage to furniture, roof overhang, though I’ll be rehanging screens this fall, so a hole there ain’t no biggie.

Marble Us:  I’ve been (for some inexplicable reason) been fixated on long marble runs recently.  The present world’s record is 9,380 (roughly).  Maybe it’s because there are so many laser-cut CNC Marble Machines out there.  Like this one on Amazon. Have no idea where to put it…at the bar, maybe?

  1. You do know that possums are one of the few critters that eat ticks? You are the one who left out cat food, which is an irresistible bait. I am so tired of the solution being to kill. This seems to be a recurring theme in this human world of ours on all different levels.

    • Yes, we knew that. But, they also eat screens, kittens, cat food, even open cans and bust up garbage cans… I love balance, which keeps the coyotes fed.

    • “You do know that possums are one of the few critters that eat ticks?”

While that statement may be true as far as it goes, further explanation includes that they only eat ticks that are imbedded in their own hides. They DO NOT go out in the woods seeking ticks to eat. They merely chomp the ones that get stuck on them.

They also steal eggs and kill chickens, placing them high on my “shoot on sight” list.

      • This one had a companion, finds Tracker Geo (so to speak, lol). So overnight, here comes a live trap and there goes one of Elaine’s bananas from the kitchen. Shhh….

      • lol lol.. I always tell the grandkids to only kill what they are going to eat or for protection..
so when he was in preschool.. the baby sitter killed a snake..he was devastated.. asked if we could sneak it in his school bag to save it..I said no its to late…
he thought about that during his half day at school..when I dropped him off at the baby sitters he looked at her all serious like and asked..are you making your husband a stew..lol lol

  4. Woody Allen said, “Life is imperfect. The movies are our only chance to get things right.”

In the movies, the Good Guys always prevail at the end of the final reel — but only AFTER some final Great Surprise and last-minute Awful Complication. THEN, the Hero Triumphs. — Music swells — fade to black — run credits. Go out and find your car and go home.

Real Life stories usually just peter out, messy, without a clear sense of Triumph. No catharsis, no “release.”

Wars seem to start the same way — not Grand, but stupid and blundering. And often messily and unexpectedly, from some wild-ass angle nobody did a scenario for.

    • Horus = Heru..Neb Heru = God Heru

final battle with “fallen” age pitted Heru against his much much older uncle enlil, Setes/Seth = Shame, Satan, on top of and underneath the Giza Plateau. Yes, local tribesmen tell of tunnels carved out of the hard rock in and around plateau. Cayce- sleeping prophet spoke of this as well.

Heru lost an eye to Seths metal tipped whip during battle. Heru, a very young Neb, eviscerated the reproductive organs/area, near death, Seth was said to have been thrown across the back of an Ass, and sent into wastelands of what is today saudi arabia.
.. intuition tells me this castration event was/is the impetus behind the gender bending spirits/archons current diabolical “workings” on the young minds of imprisoned farm population that is Us.

        they are everywhere…
when I was in the military.. stationed in DC they had a Christmas party.. great fruit punch.. after several glasses an officer came up and asked how many.. I told him..he got shocked.. great fruit punch he said that is pure alcohol your gonna die..I had never been drunk before I left for the Barack and passed out along the way..when I came to..I was in this dark passage.. every city block was a little red night light.. I didn’t have a clue where I was or how I got in there..three days I wandered..I was in the tunnels beneath DC huge .. I finally figured out how to get out..they had me down awol.. I spent years exploring it..amazing and almost every building is connected in the city.. some places wide enough to put three semi trucks side by side..entrances and exits in the damdest places to..you wouldn’t ever know they were there..
I was a spelunker..in many caves there were factories beneath the surface..
Seattle had the smugglers city beneath it..I think you can even take tours..barber shops etc.

        • “is there a map that can be had showing these tunnels?”

          nope..
that’s why it took 3_days to find my way out I assumed there had to be an entrance and exit legend someplace. and the exits were in the damdest places. Now government and buildings have to be planned the government doesn’t just do something they write everything down in triplicate and have a few hundred study groups and thousands of workers to do it..pass the buck that wasn’t my job I will have to look Into it and get back to you.. ( you will hear that all the time from government employees .. ) planning and zoning historical building and infrastructure documents that is where I would look for them everything has to be planned for city. I am pretty sure that they’ve more than likely been upgraded to..that was over fifty years ago..the light switches back then were push pull ..
I am guessing they are government tunnels for whatever.it wasn’t a sewage access tunnel or water lines..there was piping and conduit in them which means infrastructure .
are they open to the public absolutely not as well hidden as they were..
I googled it and yes there are maps online..they are way better lit than what I seen and in some of the photos they show exit kegends..I was in the wine room I didn’t know it was called the wine room though till I seen the picture online..

        • Now that is upsetting.. in the photos they show exit signs and emergency escape maps.. what I would have given to have had that back then.. I had to find the way out of there the hard way .

  5. Pedo joe is coming to my state today to announce a million acre land grab, no mining . I don’t know where he thinks we are going to get any metals . Falling out of the sky I guess. How can a (p)resident ,one man , dictate some thing
like this where it can’t be resended?

      Oh’Biden is The Dictator.

      cadaver..

Ure welcome, anything else I can 4 you, just let me know.

    • What state? I presume it’s in the west. The intention is to deprive our nation of all resources! That’s becoming increasingly more obvious.

Pedo Joe is not an American, he was just born here. He’s not a real president and I’ll never believe that the “election” was honest. He’s the visible head of a fifth column that intends to emasculate the USA in every way possible. It’s not enough to have a bunch of ridiculous regulations on everything – he’s sold off our emergency oil supply and refuses to replenish it, he’s eliminated coal plants to the best of his ability and has even turned against natural gas, which is essentially a use it or lose it situation, since there’s limited ways to store it, and it comes along for the ride with oil extraction. That guy lied about everything and got us started on WW3. He lied about student loans, though it doesn’t matter that much – they’ll never get paid off anyway. At least President Trump kept us out of war and made a valiant attempt to Make America Great Again! I don’t understand his personality or that of Elon – both of whom seem easily baitable into stupid fights. Zuck is just a CIA funded idiot with no morals and hardly worth mentioning.

I don’t understand exactly what’s going on with Niger, but there’s no good that can come of our getting involved there. Let the French deal with it since they’re the ones buying the uranium. BTW, does anyone still remember Hilldog and her uranium deal? I don’t recall her being prosecuted for that or any of her other very obvious crimes!

If we look at the bigger picture, everything done during this regime is about destroying our resources – first with Afghanistan, then selling off the oil reserve, and finally Ukraine, where all our equipment goes to die. Nobody is acquiring any replacements for these at all. This is all in the face of an open southern border policy that leaves our undefended country open to a free-for-all by unknown people and entities. We don’t seem to even have many police left – certainly not enough to prevent idiots from stealing with impunity. Anyone that thinks this all happened without prior planning and careful coordination is brain dead.

Mike, to your observations, I would add: Electric cars-no big deal. Actually a scam.
What we should be watching is how they will make electric aircraft carriers and electric combat aircraft along with Tesla self driving electric tanks and electric helicopters and cruise missiles.
We could get rich if we got loans from the too-big-to-fail banks and bought the stocks before they even take this into consideration. Who needs oil when the Calamity Joe team is sweeping the nation into the fantasyland of an oil free economy. Can you think of other ways Joe can come up with even more ways to electrify the battle theater logistics? With electric tanks, we would be almost guaranteed to win.
Cleaner, quieter! What a way to fight the new electric wars. Not too sure of the cruise range of an electric tank or fighter plane but infrastructure is a problem here as well so we will overcome… with portable power charging stations. They already have coal and oil to run the chargers. A slam-dunk, right? The ozone from all the power use can fill up the ozone hole after the machines kill each other…

      • Since we’re talking about Niger and Uranium, am I getting senile or didn’t Hitliary Klingon shepard a deal to sell about 1/2 of our U.S. produced Uranium to Russia? And didn’t that deal trigger thousands in “donations” to the “Klingon Foundation”???

        • 16.45% — the merest shade under 1/6 of all our uranium reserves, and it’s not a deal to sell, but a deal which places the uranium under Russian control. We don’t get to dig without Putin’s permission…

      • Niger….

with No rest team gone Saudi Arabia dropping Europe and the USA for oil and natural gas..last winter was a winter nightmare for European countries.. the Ukrainian war has destroyed what fifty percent of the crops on arable land.. anatomy countries are being faced with a nightmare year ahead..
now slo depleted our strategic reserves sucked into the poison pawn trap used up most of our stockpiled military arms..closed down pipelines almost shut down coal trying to get congress to outlaw gas and oil coal etc.. we are faced with astronomical prices and reduced products.. all of which can be acquired in Africa..yup the countries that asked and begged for help now have what everyone needs..unless pilots can flap their arms hard enough they need fuel..so do ships etc. ever play risk.. great game.. lay the map out once.. A Chinese base and Russian missiles what a few hundred miles from DC military exercises in the Aleutian islands.. military exercises off of japan..And every country that we went in under the premises of helping then taking what was desired is now joining the ranks waiting for the moment of weakness..
        its the perfect scenario..
hey there’s a movie to watch..
        https://youtu.be/RZvljNvnd18
and there’s nothing at all we can do.. they played on greed..our political leaders to do the Judas move..Sell out . for what a deviant lifestyle and a few coins.. now they are dividing what’s left of our forces using up what’s left of our resources and destroying our currency..
        https://youtu.be/RghsrPdptYQ
I know we are all going to make the journey but hell I sure don’t like the idea of having the line drawn by the likes of that crap we are told is the best the USA has to offer. and a group of agencies ..why in the hell are they so loyal to that group that baffles me to no end it doesn’t make any logical sense.

    • “Pedo joe is coming to my state today”

I hope they locked the school doors..you don’t want deviant trash like that to be near innocent children..

  6. Scaring off feral cats would be a positive attribute for a possum. I had a very old possum who went by the handle of Pogo take up with me. It appeared he couldn’t climb anymore, and was probably half blind. I would go out and scold him for walking around the yard in broad daylight, and he would just sit there and look at me with a puzzled look on his face. Pogo would sleep under my car. A night that wolves (transplanted Alaskan timber wolves out of OK) were in the neighborhood, I was sitting at my desk and I heard Pogo hiss one time from under my car. Then, no mo Pogo.

  8. I have been watching Niger for a couple of years now., since the report [ in 2020 ] that four U.S. servicemen where ambushed and killed. I was surprised by the size and scope of U.S. involvement there. Here is a little background for Stephen’s post – above.
    – The American intervention in Niger is the deployment of special operations forces and unmanned aerial vehicles by the United States in support of the Nigerien government and French military in counter-terrorism operations against militant groups in Niger as part of Operation Juniper Shield.
At present time the U.S. military, consisting of 1,100 personnel are restricted to the three bases manned by Special Operations forces.
The Niger Army backs the coup that took place –
All political party activity had been suspended “until further notice.” Along with all international financial transactions.
., and the head of the military that took control of the government is not too happy that a French military transport plane landed at the country’s international airport, despite his order to close the borders and all flights in and out of the country.
The Military Command of the Niger Armed Forces said that to “avoid a deadly confrontation between the different forces” it would “subscribe to the declaration of the Defense and Security forces” who staged the coup., and would not directly interfere.
Since 2012, the tab to U.S. taxpayers is more than $500 million and climbing and Niger hosts one of the largest and most expensive drone bases run by the U.S. military. Built in the northern city of Agadez at a price tag of more than $110 million and maintained to the tune of $20 to $30 million each year. [ Air Base 201 ]
Since the U.S. started the counter-terrorist operations in NIger the number of terrorist attacks has increased over 3,000 % . It now seems that most of the population are afraid of the Americans, French and the Nigerien Security Forces.
France has an estimated 1,500 troops in Niger., after being run out of Mali last year. Mali was also a French colonial controlled country and the French were ousted less than year after Wagner Group entered the country. Junta leaders say they have severed all security agreements with Paris.
Yesterday. – NIAMEY, Niger (AP) — Niger’s new military junta has asked for help from the Russian mercenary group Wagner as the deadline nears for it to release the country’s ousted president or face possible military intervention by the West African regional bloc.
It isn’t possible to say Russia is directly involved in Niger’s coup, however, for days after Niger’s junta seized power, residents waved Russian flags in the streets. The head of the Wagner Group has praised the coup in Niger and has offered his support. Wagner has roughly 1,500 soldiers stationed across the border in Mali.
The U.S. is threatening to pull all U.S. military and resourced from Niger if the democratically elected government is not reinstated. That would force the French to bail also. This would be a major windfall for Russia, as they have long wanted access to the vast mineral resources in Niger.

  9. How to understand deficit spending? A cousin dismisses all the blather as “telephone numbers.” I prefer “aircraft carrier units.” For example in today’s column George said, “Of course, they were in trouble anyway when interest on the National Debt blew past $5 billion a day, too. ” To my way of thinking, the USA could buy an aircraft carrier every two days with interest being paid on the debt. N.B. I’m not a big fan of aircraft carriers, but they are easy to visualize.

FWIW, the implication for me of excessive aircraft carrier units is “hard assets.”

    • I think your cousin might be onto something.. it’s just numbers.. the drive for a number..we sell our souls for a number..

  10. “If you don’t keep rolling over your personal income spending into more and more unaffordable SYDN *(shit you don’t need), the whole House of Cards is in trouble.”

and no funny stuff from me at least.. these girls are like granddaughter s to me..
I am always treated like family.. that’s one of the reasons I go there..great food super people working there..
when my health took a turn for the worse..the girls ran around and brought all my favorite foods.. my friend who was with me said dam what do you have going..nothing..its just who they are..and I tip well..

  11. Zuckerberg is favored, however, in the last 24 hours roughly 94% of money came in on the underdog Musk.
    – Musk stand six inches taller and outweighs ‘The Zuck’ by at least 130 pounds.
    – Zuck has been working out and is getting some respect for his Brazilian Ju Jitsu and loves watching MMA fights.
    – Musk ? “I’m too busy to work-out, but I’ve been lifting weights.”
    – If they do meet-up all proceeds will go to veterans’ organizations.

    • Brazilian Ju Jitsu is nasty. Musk grew up in segregated South Africa, having Black friends and running the streets. Later he spent a year+ in Canadian logging camps. I would guess he knows his way around. Ju Jitsu, like Judo, is principally reactive. It is not unlikely that, in a fight between these two, the first one to swing, loses.

I will keep my wallet under my bum, and hope for the best (that being a permanent and irreversible rearrangement of Zuck’s face) but I’d not make a call. If they’d fought a month ago, Musk would’ve killed him. The longer the anticipation builds, the more likely Zuckerberg will win.

I would put no stock in what either says, regarding training.

Also, bear in-mind gamblers play to win. They play both sides of any contest, issuing spot odds that’re dependent on the amount of money coming in on either side of the ledger, and win by surfing the margin between bets and odds.

  12. “Aging, and Life: 92-year-old grandmother makes history as oldest woman to finish a marathon”

Well of COURSE she’s from Hawaii… and it was the Honolulu Marathon! Back in the 1980s I ran three marathons, spaced five years apart. I also worked engineering a radio feed at the finish line for several years. After the race was ‘officially’ over, the last straggler came limping in…. a 91-year old Japanese man with an amputated foot, wearing a prosthetic foot. I forget the year and the time, but I will never forget the look of sheer determination on his old face.

  13. The last time I ordered two Big Mac meals, regular size ask was $22.00. But the service was so bad we left without paying, but we tried. We had to order off the kiosks, yada, yada. As we sat waiting for over 1/2 hour we watched a runner running orders out to drive-thru folks. It was a mess so we head to Burger King.

We walk into BK as next in line. The cash register jockey greets us and says it’ll be a few minutes. We stand at the counter for about 15 minutes. There was a line stacking, the cook is building one sandwich at a time in slow motion. Ridiculous, we left and head to the Shawarma place.

The Shawarma place was run by Middle Eastern folks with the heavy accents. Service was good.

The lower rungs are falling off the ladder.

    • Amen.. I stopped off at a dairy queen.. A whole lineup.. no one was taking any orders at the drive up..I thought maybe they didn’t realize there were people waiting ..so I called they hung up on me.. everyone in the drive up started to leave us included..we had wasted 45 minutes went to McDonald’s… it was the same thing 25 minutes..we drove off and so did two others..we stopped by colonel Sanders Kentucky fried chicken.. got our order was eating and drove by the two places.. there were cars that was in the lineup when we left..still waiting in line.
I have an old scientist friend living in Virginia…he has been trying to hire an electrician now for almost five years..
around here in the wastelands.. its plumbers..and it doesn’t matter if you live in a cottage or a castle..repair work..not going to happen.. I bought a Maytag dishwasher top of the line..the factory forgot to put the door gasket in it.. the nearest appliance repair was 350 miles away he made two trips. because he didn’t have one on the truck..A month later the circuit board went out.. they had to go further out.. it took 3 months..it worked another two months then the board went out (I was told its a design flaw) it never did get fixed they gave me my money back.. I now go to an appliance store that has an appliance repair technician on staff.. I bought the top of the line Electrolux front load washer..A dime or a screw penny something fell out of my pocket or a pocket..blocked the pump impeller..the cost to get a technician would be a grand without parts it was cheaper to buy a new machine..
the next one the leveling springs were getting weak and a fuse went out in the drier..I was talking to the technician why they don’t make them like they use to where you can vacuum out lint he said that’s why I tell everyone to buy a speed queen.. they still assemble them in the USA with the design staying as it was in the 60’s..
bought one of each gave my grand daughter the old set..no issues at all..
now I do tell my grandkids become a plumber..then get service contracts ten bucks a month..( I have to rethink that..A young man in a nearby town started a handyman plumbing repair service and he is so backlogged with jobs ))
everyone wants new construction.. no one wants to do repair service..

      • Befriend a plumber, electrician, whatever, and lend him something he needs… in the case of my plumber friend, a camper so he could do an out of town job. I have a few projects lined up for him when he gets home.

Top of my list is repairing the water tower I built 24 years ago. I went up the ladder yesterday and tried to get the lid open. I left handprints in the angle iron ladder. My self-confidence of 24 years ago apparently has withered away to nothing. My wife waited patiently at the foot of the ladder, ready to dial 911 if I went splat. Discretion overcame valor, and I returned to the ground without accomplishing my mission.

        • I hear ya on that one.. I built our home.. crawled my fat azz up into the rafters to dust a little insulation and realized that was thirty years ago and I was a tad bit thinner..
where i screwed up Was I hired a ?reputable? big contractor to do the foundation… he took the money and ran..left his hammer..that’s where I got my ten thousand dollar hammer..so I lowered the pitch to save a few bucks..I wouldn’t do it again..it was all I had though..so I worked with what I had..

        • “My self-confidence of 24 years ago apparently has withered away to nothing. My wife waited patiently at the foot of the ladder, ready to dial 911”

NO… the proper word instead of self confidence.. is gained wisdom.. now you know you could die.. before you didn’t realize the fragility of life..

    • My last trip to Mickey-Dees I parked to avoid the drive up line. Went inside and made order at Kiosk. Screen says the pay-pad is not working, so take receipt to counter to pay. Printer is out of paper… no receipt…. OK, then, no pay for you. I walked out and left the order ‘hanging’ in their system.

    • BK, DQ, McD, Wdy are all off my chow list because their burgers all taste like burnt toast now. Hardee’s / Carl’s Jr and Checkers / Rally’s still taste like beef.

      • I always liked wendys.. I could order The burger and sauces to the side.. and a baked potato.. take it to work I had a hot burger and a second meal of the potato..

  14. Re: CCP

    Folks,

History records that Pink Floyd’s single “Another Brick in the Wall” was followed by “Run Like Hell”. President Xi’s 12 two character slogans meant to represent “core socialist values” have been painted red on white in Brick Lane, London’s street art canvas. The BBC engaged the Chinese graffiti artist whose response included that the work is an effort “…to decolonize the false freedom of the West with the construction of socialism…”.

  15. Hurricane DORA is passing harmlessly far south of us, bringing breezy and hot, humid conditions. I’m a wimp. At 90 degrees with this humidity I turned on the A/C to dry out the house and have an afternoon siesta. I dunno how George lives in that Gulf air. I drove across the Texas panhandle up north one summer in a VW Van. I remember rolling UP the windows because it was cooler than the hot blast of outside air with the windows down.

  16. I’m trying to figure out tonight, when global frickin’ warming is going to arrive. Yesterday’s high was 72; today’s was 71. I made a sandwich run a few hours ago and had to fire up the car’s heater — It was 56°. I know it’ll hit 90° again this year, but probably not until September. This is shaping up like another 20° below normal August. If so, it’ll be the 13th in the last 17 years…

  17. At least 12 injured in blast at grain warehouse in NW Türkey

At least 12 people were injured after a powerful explosion rocked the warehouse of the Turkish Grain Board at Derince Port in Kocaeli province on Monday

    https://www.dailysabah.com/turkiye/at-least-12-injured-in-blast-at-grain-warehouse-in-nw-turkiye/news

    BTW, from two weeks ago:

Ukraine and Turkey are discussing the possibility of reviving the Black Sea grain agreement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on July 21 after a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“We coordinated efforts to restore the work of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Unblocking the grain corridor is an absolute priority,” Zelenskiy said.

I’m sure this (truly impressive) explosion was the result of spontaneously deflagrating wheat dust, but it sure happened at an “interesting time…”

  18. Musk offers to help workers punished for posts on his social media platform: ‘No limit’

Elon Musk is making an extraordinary offer to help fund litigation for any workers punished for posts on his social media platform.

“If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill,” he tweeted on the X platform previously known as Twitter.

“No limit. Please let us know,” he added.

Musk said his strategy would also put pressure on the boards of companies who cancel workers.

“And we won’t just sue, it will be extremely loud and we will go after the boards of directors of the companies too,” he explained.

  19. Something which should scare the hell out of all of us, even before George’s head explodes:

Judge orders Catherine Herridge to reveal sources for stories on FBI, Chinese American scientist

A federal judge ordered CBS News senior correspondent Catherine Herridge to reveal her sources for a series of stories about the FBI’s investigation of a Chinese American scientist back when she worked for Fox News. The order last week from U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington D.C. comes after scientist Yanping Chen filed a lawsuit against the FBI, claiming that the agency violated the privacy act by improperly leaking information about her.

While working at Fox News in 2017, Herridge used a confidential source or sources to obtain material about the federal counterintelligence probe of Chen.

  20. Pfizer buckles under pressure during heated hearing, admits the unthinkable about the jab…

We’re learning that many elites took a different “jab” than the rest of us. That’s the bombshell that came out of a heated hearing where Aussie senators grilled Pfizer employees who eventually admitted that they took a “special” batch of the vaccine that was not available to the rest of the public.
