DDT (*Data Dump Tuesday) & TurboTax Solved

Yes, a lot going on today.  Not the least of which is some data (Durable Goods. and Housing) which we will get to in a second.  But around here? The best news story of the week is what?

Tax Troubles Solved

Let me begin with a hearty “Thanks!” to TurboTax and E-Trade/Morgan for getting my data import working and – in the process – saving me uncountable hours of manual data keying.

The backstory here is that in the first iteration of tax file importing last week, the Wash Sales disallowed was right on the 1099B PDF download, but one of the two forms (E*Trade merged into Morgan during the tax year, so two 1099B’s) and in one there was a double-counting of the wash sale disallowance. The result of which (because I had more than 700 trades in TY 2023), was to “double-disallow” which would have added an unexpected $59,000 to my taxable income.  Which wanted to ripple into a “Bend over and write The Big One” before April 15.

The MASSIVE thank you is that the import (and we don’t know whether the issue was on the E*Morgan or Turbo side) works perfectly now.  And the Ures by next week, or so, will have their “render unto Ceasar” done for the year.  Yes, we made a little money trading, but we also habitually over-withhold in order to keep from stroking out when things like the phantom import come along, lol.

This is one of the reasons we work on taxes before a tax year ends, then when all the e-data is available, and the third time in about mid March, by which time most of the updates and tweaks will have been made in software.

Also, a hat-tip to IRS for being timely.  My little sister got her e-filing refund in less than two-weeks.

Not that we are into Chill Zone with that weight lifted.  I was in “writing trance” most of Monday on the Peoplenomics report “Tainter Point Warfare” and today there will be an addendum on domestic Pulse Wars, as a result.  Kind of grim sounding, is it?  Well, maybe.  But have you looked at the headlines going around the world, lately?

Daily Data Tuesday (DDT)

Let’s all go dance around the Money Tree. With the release just now of the latest chapter in the Financial Fairytale.  It’s Durable Goods – such as it is…  Just understand that in the Upside-Down world, this is bad news, which is spins good news:

New Orders
New orders for manufactured durable goods in January, down three of the last four months, decreased $18.0 billion or 6.1 percent to $276.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This followed a 0.3
percent December decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.3 percent. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 7.3 percent. Transportation equipment, also down three of the last four
months, led the decrease, $17.4 billion or 16.2 percent to $89.8 billion.

The twisted logic of spin ought to come  as “Since Durables were so bad, the Fed will have no choice but to lower at their March meeting.”

GDP and some International Trade figures tomorrow.  Who needs the brothers Grimm when we have the brothers Biden writing the classic “Obama’s Third Term”?

Housing data will be a short post when the number comes out.

Second Derivative Futures

Our outlook for the market to turn up by the close Monday was, admittedly, a little optimistic.  Although when we looked, earlier, things were pointing to the rally uptick today.

As a result, we are sitting back pondering the upper right-most fill of our trading box and trend line prospects and wondering “How does the end begin?”  And when?

Part of me wants the Housing numbers (pending as write-time) to be bad so we can just get the bummer part over and done with.  But the logical (second derivative) view of near-in Future says no.  Tomorrow would be a better candidate for a big whopper of a decline to show up.  Which has us eyeing GDP and Trade tomorrow and expecting a downside then.  A rally into Friday and a “sideways” week which might then get us to the March 10-11 “Blow of Steel” window that G.A. Stewart worries about (based on Nostradamus work…yeah, seriously…)

We will have a somewhat clearer idea of how the “future-pieces” of the puzzle will fit up when we get 23-hours down the track toward future in the Peoplenomics report tomorrow.

But since we already let some of the beans out with the idea of “future is a second derivative” let’s see how the “rate of change of the rate of change” is…um…changing.

Ch…Ch…Ch…Changes

(David Bowie, futurist?)  “Angle of the dangle changes the heat of the meat” as an old firehouse saying goes.  Und zo, who’s angling their danglers today?

Let’s imagine Biden’s handlers get this right: Biden says Israel-Hamas ‘ceasefire’ imminent: What could a deal look like? Could a massive attack during a cease-fire be a “blow of steel”?  Likely wouldn’t be a big enough breach to warrant quatrains. So, we keep looking (adjusting his deer stalker Sherlock hat a bit…).  Thing is, Ramadan begins on March 10…and a Blow of Steel as a religious jihad rallying call could fit.

By the way, Biden got two points from us for calling out someone: Joe Biden Addresses Age Concerns By Attacking Trump. Spoiler (for the points) “He (Trump) can’t seem to remember his wife’s name…” (rim shot).  While we like Trump on policies, he’s a little, oh…stormy on the personal side.

Land of the sycophants file: Media Squee Over Biden’s Totally Unscheduled and Surprise Appearance That Was Announced Days Ago. Maybe it’s not Biden with the memory issues, huh?  I mean anyone else remember “defend and protect” or is that a senior moment on my part? MMUS (media makes up shit). Been there, done that. Sat in the first row.

Trench War of Europe is far from over, as well.  NATO needs economic stimulus, having screwed and sanctioned themselves out of Russian energy flow. OK, we helped with Nordstream, too.  So, the second derivative is? French President Macron does not rule out Europeans sending troops to Ukraine.  F-16s from Denmark and ground troops…NATO remains desperate to goad Putin into first use of nukes so Israel can nuke the nuke builders of Iran, it’s oh, so circular…It may also be too late.

But why read about it, and why bother calling DC? 4 Absolutely Massive Bombshells About The War In Ukraine That Every American Needs To See. But won’t.

Made Up Money Moves Up.  While we continue “wallet-free” our consigliere is eyeing cryptos since Record trading volumes reached for new Bitcoin ETFs as BTC surges.People who are upside down from the all-time highs will hang in for the rally,” he notes. “Beyond that, you have the ETFs which have to buy when people send in money….”  Yeah. But he missed the business law class “Lemming Dynamics…”  (*Yes, they can all be wrong…)

Can you stop ignoring the headlines?” he continued. Holding up Record trading volumes reached for new Bitcoin ETFs as BTC surges.  “It is only up $2,800 at press time…” I reminded him.

Easter must be close: Democrats have a convert!  Major U-Turn? NYC Mayor Calls For Sanctuary City Law To Be Changed To Allow For Deportations.

Dems also know the Courts can’t be trusted with their future: New York Lawmakers Toss Independent-Drawn, Court-Ordered Congressional Map. Say, are those border lines on yon map?  Yeowza! Hard time believing?  Try second sourcing it: New York Democrats expected to back their own House map.  Gee, I didn’t know there was a self-righteous pricks party….

Bioweapons industry is still alive, kicking, and brewing our next global disaster for money: Dr. Harvey Risch makes a damning case that the global push to force vaccinate… (was to protect the bioweapons indu.)

State-sponsored White hate is Gruesome’s not fit for office, as we figure it. California requires pharmacists to undergo DEI training bashing straight, white, Christian males for license renewal.  States rot from their heads. Can you imagine the riots if another color (than White) was the object of such odious official behavior?

Tucker Carlson for President.  Why no one else is saying it, yet, escapes me.  But preemption is the agenda, looks like. In Attempted Assassination of Tucker Carlson? Here Are the Details.

Around the Ranch: Huh?

What part of working on taxes wasn’t clear?

Back with the Housing numbers in a few minutes.

Write when you get rich,

Eat Ure financial Dinnas’..delish, no? and obviously there Is No Pudding 4 yee of little faith. You get phoney made numbers printed on dirty paper – FRNotes..you do know what a Note is? Never know from Ure writing you have any understanding of Debt and Debt instruments or you be dark souled Slaver .

    Ure education suggests Slaver .

  4. “California requires pharmacists to undergo…”

The problem as I see it is Fed-Bux.

Private schools generally manage their curriculum as they please, no Fed-Bux.
Public schools take Fed-Bux so Fed-Bux has a say in all matters.

When most U.S. businesses take Fed-Bux. Fed-Bux will command most businesses. (Command economy/Communism, yada, yada.)

California offers many prescription drug subsidy programs and one state programs is Medi-Cal Rx.

“Medi-Cal beneficiary access to pharmacy services with a pharmacy network that includes approximately 94% of the state’s pharmacies.”

Since 94% of pharmacies want .gov referrals/.gov cheddar they eat from the DEI snack plate.

They all take the money to ‘compete’ or for pool payments.

    • V,

      I didn’t click the link.

In the past I posted a link to Tarot by Izabela. She had two back to back hits at the time. Since, she’s still posting two videos a week but I’m not sure if there’s a hit in the bunch.

Recall being in high school and the loudness in the hall between classes. One on one it makes sense but two, three locker doors down not so much.

The Internet has turned into ‘shouting down the hall’.

  5. The Conference Board numbers are out – Consumer Confidence fell in Feb to a bit over 106.., which isn’t all that bad – until to see the the expected reading was going to be up., 114. That surprised me a little.., but the one Index I like to look at then they release this report is the “Expectations Index”.., that is the short term consumer outlook, it fell to 79.8 in February from a revised 81.5 in January.
    – Historically, a reading below 80 signals a recession in the coming year.
    – But there’s that pesky little thought again.., do the old tried-n-true indicators still work/function – do they still “indicate” in this brave new world.
Also – January’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index reports earlier this month showed prices increased more than expected. ‘Sticky inflation’.., and the January retail sales report also disappointed as consumer spending slipped more than expected.
All-n-All.., a very weak start to the new year. Except for the Stock Markets.

  6. Could you make sure that people who post have taken their meds first. Sometimes it’s like I’m reading a code breaking site.

  7. For their third consecutive year California ranks Number One in one-way, out of state UHaul rentals [ trucks and trailers.] Massachusetts is second and Illinois is third.
    – Florida and Texas are two top destinations.., being almost equal, Texas comes in as Number one, with Florida trailing by less than one percent, at number two. These two destinations are also the same top two for last three years.

    • And Ure got there well ahead of the rush. Congrats! There is much to be said for being ‘too early’ vs. one minute too late.

    • If/when the economic collapse/CW2 comes to fruition FL will be hit when the transfer payments stop. Then the reverse multiplier turbo-charges them.

“By Percentage: The highest percentage of people ages 65 and over live in Florida. The senior population of Florida represents 19.36 percent of the total.”

“Texas has the third-lowest population of those age 65 or older among U.S. states at just 12.8 percent. “

  8. re: “Gulliver’s Travels”, 1726
    feat: diversions, J. Swift

    Folks,
Perhaps your day has been made more complete upon seeing msm coverage of today’s trip made by a solitary Servant of the People with his peace formula in hand to see The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia whose roots trace to 1727. “Reuters” offered distance reporting from their Kyiv bureau along with five (5) images supplied by Saudi Royal Court handout. President Zelensky, in wrinkled, olive trousers, black t-shirt, and questionably laced footwear suitable for taking a hike, sat uncomfortably in a small, formal chair across from the Crown Prince MBS. He was attired in black robe which afforded a rare but rude glimpse of the Royal footwear. A too-large and close table appeared awkwardly between the pair. A solemn portrait of the King observed from above. Each leader was thoughtfully paired with a golden wastepaper receptacle in easy reach should necessity of use arise. A vacant chair of larger proportion in the centre background commanded attention. Without further advice of meeting duration or detail, “Reuters” quoted the Saudi state news agency that Mr. Zelensky believed the meeting would “bring results” and he had left the Kingdom.

Yesterday as you are probably aware, a large Russian delegation enjoyed a most hospitable day trip to Riyadh as recorded by the “State Duma” news page of February 26th. The Chairman of the State Duma “conveyed warm words of greetings and good wishes to the Crown Prince from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin”. He also announced that the State Duma website would be launching an Arabic language version.

The State Duma Chairman’s entourage included: “Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism and Infrastructure, Chairwoman of the Committee on Issues of Public Associations and Religious Organizations, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, and First Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on Economic Policy” plus their supporting staffs. An accompanying 31 image gallery offers an overview of the working day amidst comfort and opulence. The visitors were even treated with a sidetrip foray into the inner sanctum of the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia watching as legislators went about their important duties.

The State Duma news page makes no mention of the Ukraine. However there were promises made “to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation” and “bilateral interaction”. I haven’t entered the .ru link here pertaining to such democratic matters in the interests of maintaining an environment exclusive of official censorship.

  9. re: All Aboard!
    feat: The Orient Express

    Folks,

Exciting news from Ukraine’s 406th Battalion courtesy of the “Daily Mail”. Not the alleged UFO sighting! The unit’s quadcopter drones were supplied by a foundation. It’s website is registered in America and accepts donations from the public. The foundation is registered with the UK government agency in such matters, “Company House”, with a UK director but appears to be controlled from Lviv, Ukraine. The Lviv hub looks to have a spiderweb of profit-seeking subsidiaries dealing in things ephemeral. Its London branch may have a physical office in prestigious Throgmorton Street named after the cousin of King Henry VIII’s 6th wife as well as being in diplomatic service and chief banker to Elizabeth I, and father-in-law of Sir Walter Raleigh. One may enter the street via the Austin Friars Passage immortalized in Charles Dicken’s pre-Civil War novel of America, “Martin Chuzzlewit”. Traversing a meandering 500′ or so on grounds urbanized in the 1260’s pedestrians will eventually find themselves deposited at the rear of The Bank of England.

One sincerely hopes that the so many billions of dollars for the Ukraine cause held up in US Congress by petty politicking may be swiftly released. Clearly there is a pressing need for quadcopter drones in the war zone.

  10. “By the way, Biden got two points from us for calling out someone: Joe Biden Addresses Age Concerns By Attacking Trump. Spoiler (for the points) “He (Trump) can’t seem to remember his wife’s name…”

Trump was referring to Mercedes Schlapp, the wife of the founder of CPAC, not his wife. Biden’s speechwriter snuck that in, knowing no one in Seth’s audience would’ve watched Trump’s CPAC speech.

Lies don’t get points from me…

  11. “But why read about it, and why bother calling DC? 4 Absolutely Massive Bombshells About The War In Ukraine That Every American Needs To See. But won’t.”

Well, the first three I am fully aware of. I don’t do social media outside my immediate family so I hadn’t heard the fourth. A Ukrainian or Pole sanctioning the assassination of Tucker Carlson doesn’t make sense. An American entity, either the White House, DoS, or CIA does, especially in Russia, but I should think they’d have a better class of bomber, and use something like C-4. Meh, maybe I’ve read one too many Clancy novels…

    • Ray, what this web site didn’t mention is the allegation that when Navalny ran off to Germany for medical treatment, they insisted on giving him clotshots. Can’t recall where I read that he insisted on Pfizer’s version, perhaps not trusting the Sputnik shot.

If those two statements are true, it would explain a lot, and sounds more likely than someone trying to assassinate him.

  12. “Easter must be close: Democrats have a convert! Major U-Turn? NYC Mayor Calls For Sanctuary City Law To Be Changed To Allow For Deportations.”

Eric Adams IS already a Dimocrat. Did you mean to say Republicans have a convert or perhaps sanity has a convert…?

  13. This is the reality of the US economy:

    https://www.zerohedge.com/personal-finance/how-economy-changed-theres-no-bargains-left-anywhere

You go into local shops and restaurants, and the people working there are angry and looking for someone to blame for their miserable lives. Meanwhile, the corporate delivery guys are raking in the big bucks. There are bargains, but they are all mail-order.
New multi-level apartments may be the new tenements, but they are stratospherically pricey. This is where the RV’s and tiny homes come in. The RV and mobile home parks have been zoned and coded out of existence by most large cities, but they are starting to pop up again all over the suburban and rural landscape, in the form of tiny home rental pads. As long as fuel prices and availability permit, this trend will continue.
I have seen a lot of tiny homes, but they generally fall short on home office space. However, that doesn’t stop telecommuters from doing the tiny home deal.
The Covid debacle opened up telecommuting as a mainstream lifestyle choice. The telecommute lifestyle frees up both time and resources which improve the standard of living. Their are still remaining lifestyle bargains open to owner-built cash tiny and small home owners, with professional telecommute jobs. I will mine that niche until it disappears as well.
